Just because I write about it every year in September

Sports are back on the TV for me. NFL season has started with a big win from Bears. Granted they were playing Colts, a team in rebuilding after Peyton Manning's leave. But, there was a scary moment with Jay Cutler's pick six mistake at the start of the game. For us who watched Bears go through Jay's interception riddled season couple of years ago it was a gasp moment. Overall, after this small mistake the team looked good. There is a certain connection between Jay Cutler and freshly acquired Brandon Marshall. Matt Forte looked leaner and ran very very well. We'll see how the season develops, but at the moment I am a very happy fan!

Body is a marvelous thing

Let me explain what I mean and I will take the long winded approach. I was never a big kid. I was never a very strong kid. The fact is i was usually barely scraping by on all of the required phis-ed activities, mostly thanks to my Mom (from what I hear, the storms she used to raise in school were legendary). However, I  always loved sports. I tried a lot of things when I was in school: tennis, ping-pong, volleyball(weird for kid of my non-existent height), team handball, soccer, you name it I tried it. My preference were two things, the first one was hitting small round object with some sort of accessory, be it a tennis racquet ping pong paddle, or a hockey stick (yes we did not always had a puck growing up). The other came from watching all of those Hong Kong movies, we got access to in the mid 90s. Yes I admin it, I used to be the martial arts junkie. Because I was small, I was an easier target bullies. Now, I hate to play to stereotypes, but being a smart Jewish...

EURO 2012

I don't usually watch soccer. I can count on my fingers the number of games I've seen in the last ten years. All of a sudden I am very interested in the current European championship, watching Russia play. I usually found soccer games quite boring, but something have changed I guess. Watched Ukraine-Sweden game yesterday and was thoroughly entertained by the game. Very strange.

Weekly update.

There is nothing going on at the moment with me accept Studying and NFL Playoffs. The birthday was uneventful, and I think I didn't mind it being this way. I got some great presents and Thanks to all for giving. Big upset over the weekend with Seahawks (a first team below .500 to make it into the playoffs) defeating World Champion Saints. Seahawks (I hope none of my readers are fans) are quite an unremarkable team. They are going to be facing my Bears this following weekend. I hope for the best, but upsets have been known. Jets have defeated the Colts, another remarkable upset. Jets have been uneven all season, with Mark Sanchez having some bad days. For all their bluster, I do not see them defeating Mr. Brady and the Patriots in the upcoming game. Archnenemis greenbay are going against Atlanta, and this can go either way. I don't know who would I rather see Bears facing in the NFC championship. I like the fact that Baltimore is going to be facing off the Steelers. Two very tou...

Weekly posting

I have been super busy with work and school these couple of weeks. I think the Innovation and Risk class has wrung me out more than any other (that includes Accounting and Finance). The paper is done. For some stupid reason I did not ask for help on the budgets from people who are close to me and know a lot of stuff about budgeting and feasibility until almost the last moment. I think my brain was fried or something. The only thing that is left is the Disruptive innovation presentation. What my team and I decided to do is to create an online service for aspiring movie makers, basically trying to change the way that independent films are made and distributed. If it ever comes to anything remember, you heard it here first. Oh, yeah. Lots already has been written about this years Superbowl. One thing to mention is that I really really wanted to see Favre against Manning. Two super QBs. I have nothing agains Brees, he's having a season of a lifetime, and what he did for Saints is simpl...

It's Tuesday..

It's Tuesday and I have nothing to write about. The ankle is healing nicely. I can walk now with almost no pain. Planning to go on the soft brace tomorrow, and possibly go to a gym on Thursday for some moderate walking. The Bears' season is done. The offensive line is like swiss cheese when protecting Cutler, and offers no routes for Forte. Cutler doesn't have anybody to throw the ball to, except Olsen. And the Defence is just plain bad. Lots of work and studying to be done this week.

Sports talk

I want to address two issues today. A lot of people now bemoaning the fact that Kyle Orton has a 6-0 season and Jay Cutler has only been able to post a 3-2. Give it a rest people! Mr. Orton was able to find a team where evrything clicked for him, that is the only reason Denver is lossless. It doesn't mean that he would have six wins had he stayed with Da Bears. Cedric Benson is having a good season with the Bengals, and he is coming back to play against the Bears. I am actually happy for the guy. He is one of the few athletes, who realized that you have to work your ass off to play in the NFL. Dismissal from the team did him good. And that's how I see it.

NFL

The football season started with a dissapointment. A loss to Greenbay? Not a good way to start. Cutler looked greedy, trying to thow ball around. Four Interceptions? There was a lot of miscues betwween him and the wide recieving corp. With the reigning champs coming to Soldier Field, I am lloking at the 0-2 record this week.

Monday's bloggin'

I have a lot to do before the vacation, so I'll cop-out for a bunch of mini-posts today. Post #1. We watched Righteous Kill yesterday. It's a good movie. Here's my question. Without a doubt, both DeNiro and Pacino are great actors. Why is it then, that the writers prefer to give monologues to Pacino? It seems like he stole the movie, while DeNiro was more of a standby. Post #2. This amazing stat is off Peter King's Monday Morning Quaterback. Mariano Rivera's career blown saves against Boston: 12. Mariano Rivera's career blown saves against the other 28 teams in baseball: 47. Post #3. We went to see Jersey Boys on Friday, as part of our 9 year of being married. Excellent show. Good music, amazing singing from the cast. The story is "loosely" based on the Four Seasons story and Franky Valli. After the show I absolutely had to get a compilation of Four Seasons music. Some of the song I easily recognized some I didn't. Most of them did not get any asso...

Thursday football news.

I read football news. Not everyday, but every other week. I've read them yesderday afternoon. The sports sphere is abuzz with news about Jay Cutler debucle. Imagine my surprize (with jaw falling to the ground with a loud noise) when I discovered not more than three hours later that Da Bears actually aquired mr. Cutler for their quaterbacking needs. Now the analysts talked about this for a month now, projecting Browns, Bucs, Titans, even Detroit. It seems that Mr. Jerry Anglo (bears GM) has ninjaed everyone on this deal. NO ONE suspected. Granted, the Team had a bad QB situation for at least a decade, but THIS! This news have been chewed over and over for the last 24 hours. Here's my little take on it. The Bears get Culter. One of the most promising QB right now. 26 years old, already a Pro-bowler, with a gun for a hand. However, he's got a reputation of being a primadonna. With a defensively dominating team this might not cut it. There are also a lack of good recievinig cor...

After the superbowl

Well the Superbowl is over, and Steelers have won another ring, second in the past 6 years I think. Here are my thoughts on the game: 1. Commercials sucked. I can't remeber a single one of them. I do remember Danika Patrik trying to get naked for GoDaddy.com 2. Arizona's offense played better than Pittsburgh, IMHO. 3. Arizona's defense made some great stops in the red zone. Unfortunately it got clogged by fouls resulting in some bad bad yeard loss. 4. Second half was way more exciting than the first. In the end I was sitting on the edge of the couch, pulling what hair I have left. 5. Officiating was not very good. But it's not for me to judge. 5a. Roughing the passer call was bogus, Big Ben was out of the pocket. 5b. Roughing the kicker call was bogus, there was absolutely nothing the defensive player could have done to avoid collision. 6. Larry Fitzgerald is AWESOME! I ate too much pizza complimented by Miller Lite and Buffalo Wild Wings(you can never have enough wi...

I am sad

The Steelers won. The Cards won. I am sad. Do you know why? The reason is that with the Superbowl the sports die for me until next September. I think I'll root for Cards, they are a past Chicago team after all, and I just don't like Big Ben. This does seem like the year for old Quaterbacks. I will go for Warner plus Larry Fitzgerald is an exciting player to watch. I stopped watching hockey almost right after the players strike in '95 or '96, or almost right after the year Rangers won the Stanley Cup. The players got greedy, and I couldn't handle that. The sport lost its luster for me when Wayne, Mess, Mario, Bure, Fedorov have hanged their jerseys or went into oblivion (of course it wasn't abrupt, it spanned couple of seasons). It's just not that interesting anymore. I don't watch basketball anymore. I think it happened the year I moved to Chicago, and couldn't watch Knicks on the regular basis. And then Ewing retired, some kid right out of high-scho...

Pathetic - UPDATE

The weather and staying home is getting to me. I am seriously considering hibernation these days. Instead of typing I am reverting to lazy picture posting. Here is another one. I think our gutters are filled with snow. This picture was made out of Little One's bedroom window. ------------------ Oh, Yeah. I stayed until eleven watching the Bears game yesterday. I can't believe they've won. This could have been the most exiting nail biting 4th quarter EVER! All hope is now on Vikes loosing to Giants and Bears thrashing Houston.

Fall TV Season. Part IV.

Well, the networks keep throwing stuff at me. I was actually at a loss yesterday trying to decide what I wanted to DVR. The CBS comedy two hour has lost. My little gets her fill of Dancing With The Stars, and I need my fill of Chuck and Heroes. Chuck was good at getting back into the swing of the the general idea. The show keeps being funny and interesting. Although the twist of Chuck's freedom from CIA was apparent at the first moments of the hour. The Heroes I haven't seen yet, since we've decided to enjoy another hour of Boston Legal. Life got DVR'ed as well. Back to the Sunday night. Bears beat Eagles, most improbably I might add. McNabb is much, and I will repeat MUCH, better quarterback than Orton ever hopes to accomplish. The last quarter drive was extremely exciting, and if not for the triple stop of the Bears' defense on the goal line, this would have been another loss. Get some young blood in the there, the defense is getting old, and they can't go on...

Weekend Happenigs.

Oh, what a weekend. We got hit by a storm. I would guess remnants of Ike. The rain was coming down for 3 straight days. On Saturday morning I saw the water begin to sip through the lower level floor. We've turned the pump on, but since it was raining for a day before that the pump was struggling to keep up for better half of the day. No damage, very little water, but a lot of wet towels. The rain finally stopped on Sunday afternoon, when i was watching Da Bears play the Panthers. What a disastrous game that was. Blowing a two touchdown lead in the second half is terrible. Matt Forte has showed himself as a capable back, and a short pass receiver. Kyle Orton has shown himself incapable of throwing long passes, overshooting Booker for a go-ahead touchdown. On Saturday we went to see Burn After Reading . What a wierd little movie. The actor interpaly was great, everybody was great in it, but the movie itself was hard to follow. The whole movie was stolen in the last two or three minut...

Of Bears and School

After about a week of grueling material reading and understanding I passed the final for the Quantative Analisys test. The score was 37 correct out of 43. Two of the questions I got wrong because of the misunderstanding. The other two I think I missed purely on the not getting the material, and the last two for the reasons beyond my comprehension, since i did not record the questions. Now I have about three weeks of leisurely reading the material for the next class, and thinking of the topic for the final paper on that class (at least that was mentioned in one of the emails). I have lost the flash drive with all my previous works, which is a considerably big hit to me. Now I WILL remember the importance of occasional back-up. THE NFL SEASON HAS STARTED. Finally the sports returned into my day-to-day life. The Bears have won their first one. It's way too early to predict anything now, but here some of my observations. - Brady is done for the season. One less to contend with. Withou...

Olympics

I watched the opening ceremony over the weekend (after all these years i still rave about TiVo). Am I the only one who is intimidated by the sheer amount of human power involved in the theatrics? I was impressed and a little scared at the same time. Paranoia kicking-in. Did they do that on purpose, to show how much cheap labor they can employ, to pull almost anything off?

Favre Goes To The Jets.

I don't really have anything more to say. I am glad he's not going to the Vikings this season. The Packs gave him up under very strict conditions. Jets would loose all sorts of important picks next draft if they sell him. And there's also a limit to the amount of games he can play, again affecting the picks. Very drakonian of the Packs. Oh, well. We'll see. The season starts in a month. I wonder if that's going to be enough for Brett to adjust to the new gamebook.
