I hope it's not an alien life form.

Every year my backyard is visited by one! of these little guys. I see it grow from about about 1cm long to about 1 inch long every year. But I've never seen the adult form.

I think it's a grasshopper. Any insectologists out there?

Looks like it could be a type of katydid, which I believe are related to grasshoppers. We get them around my place sometimes, but they're larger than an inch in length...

Wow! Thanks Jason. I think that's exactly what it was. Long antennae and everything. Again, probably not fully grown yet, and far less jittery than a grasshopper. It jumped away only after i got right in its face.

I like the fact that they look like leafs in camo.

Interesting thing. I have a red-eye reducing light in my Pan 850IS, and it would actually hide behind porch's railing, when i pointed that thing right at it.

Must've thought it had a laser-sight on it or something. :)

Katydids seem a little more intelligent than grasshoppers. I used to like to play with them when I was a kid, trying to see how close I could get my hands to them before they'd react, that sort of thing.
